My name is Laurence D. McPhail Jr. better known as “Sergeant Mac”. First, I am pleased with accepting the position as Angels Haven Charities Veteran Advocacy Director. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I attended South Shore High School (Brooklyn, NY). For college, I attended Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus and CW Post Campus), and I also attended Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA). Upon departure from college, I enlisted and served 12 years (1996-2000, then from 2006-2014) in the United States military; 4 years active duty service in the United States Air Force, and 8 years national guard service in the United States Army. While enlisted, I also served 3 combat tours overseas.
I was released from the military at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6) with an honorable medical discharge. I was discharged from the military upon deployment processing for my 4th deployment due to diabetes and gastroparesis . My goal at the Angels Haven Charity is to assist as many veterans that I can with my open-door policy, as I diligently serve those in need of assistance. My motto is: “If I don’t know the answer, I will find it and get back to you asap!”. I currently reside in Brooklyn, New York. I am a father to 2 sons, Phadon (19) and Dean (9).
